So I am currenty training for the BR Beach 1/2 Marathon which is on 12/4/10. I having steadily increased my mileage since the end of April. This is my second attempt to train for a 1/2. The year before I was training to do the San Antonio 1/2 with my RB, Melissa. But I got road blocked with knee issues and stopped running for a couple of months. I ran here and there 1-2 days a week for several months, and in Dec09 I decided it was time to start over, and try again. From Dec through April, I built back up my mileage and then started the running schedule I am following right now. It has had its ups and downs, but overall the training has been going very smoothly. Louisiana heat is ridiculous so all of my long runs
are down early Sat morns...until now! My alarm went off at 4:00am, and I snoozed until 5, then until 6. I would look at the temp on my phone and realized that it is now cool enough to wait a little later in the morn. I have been waiting all summer. Oveer the summer I had come to the realization that i am "vampire" runner...I do whatever I can to run in the dark or shade. But now that it's cooler, bring the sun on!! It was about 62 degrees when I started and it was glorious. I made my way around the large, small lakes and golf course, then around the larger lake again. I felt great, and went .5 mile longer and shed 6 mins off my time from doing 9.75 last week. My garmin (my running watch, that is the best purchase i have ever made ) beeped at 10 miles and I literally said as loud as could "oh my God" and I felt my smile as a kept on going. I had hit double digits. A wave of pride moved over me and I fully understood why some people cry after running. My knees did start aching around the 7th mile, but not enough to slow me down. What makes this time around so much better is the way I take care of myself...I've lost 23lbs since Feb and stretching/ice after runs are essential. I use to skip them a lot. And I can tell the difference.
The rest of the day will be spent relaxing, uh I just ran 10 miles. The only thing I have planned is watch the LSU game and visit with friends, so relaxing will be easy. Geaux Tigers!!
I was wondering why you texted me with 10.25!!!
